چکیده

In the present study, the efficacy of citicoline in alleviating the ischemia/reperfusion neuronal injury was investigated in male Sprague Dawley rats. Citicoline was administered before inducing ischemia, during ischemia and after reperfusion. Animals were scored for neurological deficits, assessed for anxiety, cognition and motor activity. Sodium potassium ATPase, Glutamate, ATP, NAD was determined and western blot analysis of TNF-α and IL-10 was performed. Histopathology of the brain was performed. Citicoline has recuperated neurological deficits in the rats treated with citicoline before ischemia. Sodium potassium ATPase, ATP, NAD was increased and glutamate level was decreased in the Pre-ischemic L-NAME group than the other treatment groups. In addition to this, expression of TNF-α was down regulated, IL-10 was upregulated, and percentage neuronal damage was greatly reduced in the preischemic citicoline group. Hence, Preischemic administration of Citicoline exhibits better neuroprotection in middle cerebral artery occluded / reperfused rats.

Behavioral Changes in Combination Therapy of Ethanol and Modafinil on rats Focal Cerebral Ischemia

Introduction: Ethanol is considered as an effective agent in reducing brain stroke injury. In this study, we assessed the effects of modafinil along with ethanol as a combination therapy on behavioral function in Wistar rats. Methods: The right Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion (MCAO) was performed and the rats were divided into nine groups (n=8 per group). The animal groups in this study were ...

P34: Berberin Exerts Neuroprotective Effects by Modulating Pro and Anti-Inflammatory Cytokines in Rat Model of MCAO

Many complicated mechanisms are involved in brain ischemia and the role of inflammatory factors in the progression of post-ischemic injury is inevitable. In present study, anti-inflammatory effect of berberine has been investigated in reperfusion injury after acute ischemic stroke. Male Wistar rats weighing 250-270 gr were randomly divided into four cohorts: healthy rats (control, n=20), sham-o...

Gender difference in motor impairments induced by chronic administration of vinblastine

Objective(s):Neurotoxicity of anticancer drugs complicates treatment of cancer patients. Vinblastine (VBL) is reported to induce motor and cognitive impairments in patients receiving chronic low-dose regimen. Materials and Methods: The effects of VBL treatment on motor, learning and memory functions of male and female Wistar rats were studied by behavioral related tests. Animals were given chro...

Neuroprotection and restoration of the nigrostriatal dopaminergic system in 6-OHDA lesioned rat model of Parkinson's disease: Role of GDNF and TGF expressing Zuckerkandl's organ

Zuckerkandl’s organ (ZK) is an extra adrenal para-ganglion and has the ability to express glial cell line derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) and transforming growth factor (TGF). It is also a source of dopamine and norepinephrine. In the present study, the neuroprotective and restorative potential of ZK was studied by transplanting it into the striatum of adult rats either before or after the i...

Extracellular Vesicles Derived from Human Umbilical Cord Perivascular Cells Improve Functional Recovery in Brain Ischemic Rat via the Inhibition of Apoptosis

Background: Ischemic stroke, as a health problem caused by the reduced blood supply to the brain, can lead to the neuronal death. The number of reliable therapies for stroke is limited. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) exhibit therapeutic achievement. A major limitation of MSC application in cell therapy is the short survival span. MSCs affect target tissues through the secretion of many paracrine...
